Friday: The Overnighter (Summary)

We have Vanessa as this weeks HOH and Johnny Mac back in the house, which means last week basically meant nothing (other than Austin freaking out that his target is back in the house). Vanessa promised Austin and twins 100% safety this week, including not going up on the block even as pawns. She also promised Johnny Mac that he's totally safe this week as well. So, who will Vanessa nominate and target? James/Meg. Liz pushed for J-Mac to be this weeks target but Vanessa shut that down, saying that isn't what's best for her own game.

Vanessa's mad because Meg/James didn't congratulate her on winning HOH...and there it is. Her targets for the week because they weren't happy for her win. Vanessa always comes up with "reasons" and it's always because someone wasn't happy for her or didn't hug her, etc.

Around 9pm BBT, Vanessa remembered that she made a promise to James (weeks ago) that the next time she won HOH, he'd be safe. So this would mean she's going back on her word.

In other news, Vanessa told Austin she wants F2 with him and then later on, made a F2 with Julia if Liz was out of the house. She then went and promised Steve Final 2.

**So that's it for the Overnighter. Vanessa is making F2 deals all over the place, while breaking her deal with James. Both Meg/James think they're safe this week and don't have a worry in the world. Vanessa plans on blindsiding them today at the Nomination Ceremony because "she doesn't owe them anything". I'll be back later on with the official Nominations spoiler.

Stay tuned...

HOW DO THESE PEOPLE NOT REALIZE IT WILL BE TOO LATE TO GET OUT THE AUSTWINS IF THEY DON'T DO IT NOW?? There. I got it off my chest. I wish I could say I feel better about this season. But no. It still stinks. Thanks for all you do Jamie. Can't say I envy you having to blog the rest of this garbage. Hugs!

For crying out loud! This person is horrible! This isn't entertaining television anymore! I'll still watch, because ritual and all, but I'm really not excited at the prospect of her being rewarded for behavior like this. It implicitly states that if you complain and cry and demean others, you'll be rewarded. BB is better when it's about strategy, and not this Real Housewives-level of whine.

If somehow she gets evicted, I hope she's basted in hisses and boos like a cooked turkey. (I'm hungry- sorry for the food metaphor)

Oh Vanessa...get rid of one of the Austwins! You are going to hurt your game. Sometimes she is so smart and sometimes so dumb. She needs to side with James/Meg/Johnny to get rid of twins esp since she is the only one to win any comps from that group (besides James). Would be so smart for her. Let us hope she gets pissed at one of them and show us some good drama for a change!

Lines have been drawn for weeks now, albeit some lines are blurry and fluid, but even Vanessa uses the "that side of the house" phrase in between holding the BB record for using the "blood on my hands" phrase. So why does she feel the need to find/make up reasons on her nominations. It always seems more harm for the HOH is done by making a speech and giving reasons for the nominations rather than just announcing them at the ceremony, saying its strategy and sitting the heck up. Maybe "production" begs them for speeches for made up drama.

And in response to some prior questions on my past posts about liking that James and Becky made big move nominations as HOH (can't fault Becky that Shelly got voted out over Vanessa, but give her creoit, she still got out a great player in Shelli), while I appreciate the strategy of numbers that Austwins and V have stuck too which is smart to get to the end and then have a free for all, unlike the Brigade who controlled things in their day, I just can't stand the the Austwin's in general and Vanessa for her endless crying (major points to Zingbot for The Crying Game" comment) and micro questioning every little thing like hugs vs no hugs from "the other side of the house". All told, while the other side of the house hasn't won many comps and are in their position because of that, I mainly want one of them to win (except Meg who has done zero) because of my dislike for Austwins and V.

I have been a Vanessa fan from day 1 but looks like that is coming to an end for me. How does she not see that she needs to break up Austin and the twins? Then she makes a final 2 deal with Austin – REALLY Vanessa? You honestly think that Austin will keep that deal with you when he has Liz? AND, James and Meg think they are safe – LMAO!!!! They are all horrible players that are totally clueless. The fact that James and Meg “don’t have a worry in the world” is comical. Jamie – I’m at the point that I don’t know if I can keep watching the show let alone the feeds……I thank you and applaud your dedication!!!!

Jamie, you are my hero! I could tell weeks ago mentally you were out of this! After watching BBAD, I came to the realization that ok Van won, Jmac was back in the house. She is gonna target Meg and James who I love but game wise they have done nothing but hang out and have been very funny? But even if she gets out Meg and James she's gonna have a ruff ruff time getting out Austiiinnnn and the twins she's only one person? So after the last few floaters are gone I think it will get very entertaining to watch all this go down! So keep your head up I feel there is more drama to come. Hope your feeling better, Drea

This season I have not watched the feeds at all, such a shitty season, I thought tgat Vanessa would be smart to take one of the twins out, bliws my mind that she doesn't see how important is to brake that trio. I'm also done watching the rest of this season, so utterly boring. The cast sucks.

I laughed so hard at this comment!! Haha love it! Thanks for being with me all these years!!

I think what's hurting enjoyment of this season, is that Vanessa is making emotional decisions, instead of _actual_ strategic decisions, and the producers don't realize how off-putting that is to fans who were hooked by diplomacy and deal-making.

Kc said...

Long time reader first time commenting. I'm going to cancel the feeds and I'm no longer watching. Vanessa should team up with James, Meg and JM to get Austin and the twins out, but no. She is going back on her work (again) with James to keep the most solid alliance intact. This whole season is such a let down. I'm done watching. I hope CBS hears how upset everyone is over this season. On a side note, I've been following you for several years and love your blog!

Jamie said...

Hi kc! Thanks for the kind words & for being with me all these years! I don't blame take one bit for not wanting to watch anymore. We have less than a month to go, so I'm gonna stick it out & see how much worse this season can get lol

I feel like this season of BB is one long instructional video of how NOT to play the game. From Audrey playing the game too hard and too fast, to Da blowing up her game by going crazy over getting caught counting items in the house, Jason/Da not being smart enough to use the knowledge of the twin twist properly, Meg not being able to effectively compete in physical comps, Shelli and Clay having a showmance, Vanessa not seeing that she is #4 in her 4 person alliance, Meg and James feeling safe when they have ZERO power……it’s just one mistake after another.

I’ll keep watching because my kids love it but I’m with you Jamie…..at this point, let’s just watch to see how else these (insert you own adjective) people can screw up this game!

I have two ideas for next season casting. Take the first person voted out from each season (not All stars) and have them play. Or after this season, probably need an All Star season again to make us forget this season (with hopefully no one from this season making All Stars. And while casting All stars, bring back alliances that actually stuck (Brigade as an example) as opposed to this seasons hourly alliances.

She knows Austin and the twins have nothing to say if they get to F2. She's targeting anyone who made big moves and would have a shot at winning over her. Although she has a lot of meltdowns and tears, I always saw them as planned and strategic. I would be happy if Vanessa won at this point, but as a fan, I get so bummed watching the people who are more fun to watch getting voted out.

Okay, please no one bash on me for my opinion! I don't understand why everyone hates Vanessa so much. She is an amazing player and can manipulate things to go her way. I wish everyone would just put themselves in that place and realize if you were trying to win half a million you'd do as much as you can, just like Vanessa is. My opinion on her winning HOH this week wasn't necessary, because the Austwins are still in there and in order for them to go she can't be HOH. They believe she is the number one target, but if anyone besides the Austwins were smart(which I'm sure everyone but Meg), would automatically surpass Vanessa as a target and must realize in order for them to pursue their safety they must rely on each other to have their numbers and get the Austwins out. After that they can then worry about Vanessa later. This is the reason why the rest of the house besides Vanessa should put the Austwins on the block. 1. If the Austwins numbers go down, Vanessa WILL be the next target & 2. The Austwins have had Vanessa since the very beginning and she has them, despite their burning bridges. Now put yourself in her position and I bet you'd realize how important not putting them up is, and instead to have someone else do it. Throughout all that, I will say that it is a dumb dumb DUMB DUMB choice to put James and Meg up if she does. I see Meg and Steve being a better option for noms. Here is why I believe so for her game, because without James who else beside JohnnyMac will go after the Austwins for her sake of the game and theirs too? Meg can't win anything, obviously and Steve seems like he got hit by lightning and can't move with a reasonable decision. He'd probably be too nervous to put blood on his hands for even thinking about putting the Austwins up that he might be dumb and choose Vanessa, Meg, or James. Come on? We all found out how scared Steve gets when it comes to making a huge decision? We all watched it! James and JohnnyMac would not care to put blood on their hands with the Austwins, and Vanessa should know that. By now, how the nom ceremony's have been going with Liz and Austin, JohnnyMac knows they'll most likely put him up again, and James knows that they will probably not nom Vanessa. James has had so many people including himself go up to the Austwins and ratted Vanessa out, but back after back wins of the HOH they still have not put her up. This should be scary moment for James. Nonetheless, the Austwins NEED to split up a.s.a.p. before the numbers start running out on anyone else's end. If anyone has any other opinions, thoughts, or suggestions please let me know. This is a crazy game, and that's why I love Vanessa because she's playing it. Meg isn't, Steve isn't (he just loves the show), James & JohnnyMac are stuck, and the Austwins wouldn't be anything if they didn't have each other, and all the while Vanessa is one person playing a tough game. Come on, give her a break and credit!

@Lauren-

Speaking for myself, I don't like Vanessa's game play, because it makes for exceptionally terrible television. It's not interesting to watch her cry and being a dick to Steve and J-Mac over and over. And really, to me, I don't think she's acting. I think she's genuinely making rash, emotionally charged decisions instead of thoughtful intrigue.

Jamie, I'd also like to thank you for your hard work. Tough season to say the least.

I think hate is a pretty strong word. I try not to hate anyone. When you say that Vanessa has played a good game, I agree with you. To an extant. When you say that she has played the best game in the house of those remaining, I agree with you completely. Here is why I'm not a "fan" of Vanessa though: 1. The whining/crying that she is alone. This occurs every time that she finds herself in hot water. And many times when she is not. 2. I think she actually believes that she has never lied, back-stabbed, etc. (all of which I'm fine with by the way, but you gotta own it). As Dan Gheesling said, "I want to cheer for Vanessa but she needs to become a bad*** villain and not a whiny one." 3. Poor judgement sticking with the Austwins for so long. You have to be smart enough to realize that what JM said is true - if you stick with that triad, you are playing for 4th place. Period. 4. The phrase "I can't get blood on my hands." This phrase is so counter-culture to what this game is. All of the great winners of the past got lots of blood on their hands and owned it. 9 times out of 10 people will vote for gameplay regardless of emotion at the end (i.e. Becky has already said that she will give V her vote at the end. Why? She can't stand her, it makes no sense. Because she respects the game play.) 5. I believe that a major reason that V is dominating this season is because the cast is full of subpar players who really are not good at this game at all. The one person who I thought was smart enough to go against her, Becky, got burned when the goblins flipped and voted out Shelli (another move that I didn't mind by the way, but ultimately got rid of the smartest goblin, Jackie). All that to say, if you put V in a house of former all-star houseguests, or at least all-star caliber new players, I don't think she even makes it to jury.
So, in sum, I for one don't hate Vanessa, but I also can't cheer her for fabulous game play when really she is simply the banana with fewer brown spots in a bunch of bananas full of brown spots.
That's my two cents anyhow. Thanks for the discussion.

I’m glad Vanessa won HOH and that her targets are James and Meg. I hope James goes this week. She may have promised not to go after James weeks ago but just a couple of weeks ago, he was on board to get her out. If Vanessa and James were the last ones in the HOH competition and she said she would not put him up if he gave the HOH to her, then she would have to honor that.
Vanessa is getting closer and close to JMac and repairing her relationship with Steve. If and when she thinks it is good for her game to get out Austin or one of the twins, she will do it. I know she said she has their back … and she does … until they cross her AND they will. She knows they will but for now she has 3 solid votes behind her. JMac, Steve and Meg will be backup votes and potential allies in getting Austin or Liz out. I wouldn’t worry about Julia.
OMG, I don’t remember if it was Julia or Liz but Austin said so and so thinks they are not “expendable”. One of the twins said “what does that mean?”. They are always asking what the meaning of words is. How did they ever get through college?
Lauren, I don’t hate Vanessa. I give credit where credit is due. At this point she is the best player of the bunch and deserves to win.

My biggest issues with Vanessa:

1. She's already got $4 million in the bank. Kinda hard to root for someone who's already living a pretty comfortable lifestyle especially when she's battling people that the half a million would make an actual difference for them.

2. She won't own up to how she's playing. The last three weeks her alliance has been in power yet she's portraying herself as an isolated victim constantly crying and emotionally manipulating/bullying Steve. Compare that to how Derrick treated Cody, his final 2 partner, Dan with Memphis or the Brigade.

3. The other house guests are so bad and Vanessa constantly over-analyzes, overthinks and overplans every moment. It'd be like a doctor diagnosing something alongside kindergartners. No need for all her stressing out moments.

Keep chugging along Jamie. I may be sticking to your recaps and trying to watch older seasons for my entertainment.

Given the info Jamie provided today it looks like Van is actually making a good move with Jmac. She is certainly aware of her position with the Austwins and needs Jmac in the end. She is the ripest banana in the group for sure but she is far from being "amazing". She did herself damage by ranting on Steve about the Austwins alliance to get her out with Steve being the mastermind. That only put the spotlight on the fact that she is aware of her position with the Austwins. The only way she becomes the "smart" player some think she is? Show me "a pair" and nominate Austin and Liz. Then I might change my opinion of her.

Unknown said...

Im sorry but I cannot agree with those who say that Vanessa is actually a good player, when really it just comes down to the fact that the rest of the players are just bad game players that dont see it coming. If you needed to shave and all you had was a dull razor and a bunch of plastic spoons, would you think that was a great razor blade?

furhead said...

This is where James/Meg changing their minds about voting Vanessa out finally bites them in the butt! Coulda told you this was coming!

But Vanessa would've just won the jury return comp and gotten back in all the same.

She needs to take Liz out. Without her, Julia and Austin will have nothing! How can she not see that???

You know how they say that the lottery is a tax for people who are bad at math?

There should be a tax for stupid houseguests that can't do math.

Unknown said...

Vanessa has already stated she's not there for the money and seems to be playing that way.

Anonymous said...

@Bobbie...Totally agree with you. I don't hate Van, in fact, at this point would like to see either her or James win. Not getting blood on your hands and Van not putting Austwins up or Austwins not putting Van up is not good game play on either of their parts. As I said before, Van needs to go with all besides Austwins where they're a mixed bag, not a close alliance. For her to make F2 deals with each of the Austwins is ridiculous. Does she really think that isn't going to get back to them?

As I've also said before, it is Van's bullying that I dislike. Plus she is very demeaning to everyone else. Come on, how many times does she explain things to people and ask them, "do you understand"? I could understand once in awhile in a complex situation but simple explanations are insulting when she asks if they understand. I would have a difficult time not doing the same to her and telling her not to treat me like a dense person or naughty child.

@rigs...I completely agree that James is a danger to Van's game and that she needs to get him out but after she breaks up the Austwins. James is upset with the Austwins and realizes he needs to break them up, then it would be a more even playing field.

Anonymous said...

Also, when it comes to the people in the jury, they have had someone come in and talk to them about what to consider when voting, namely how they played the game, not personal feelings and that does seem to be ultimately how they vote after they have discussions.

I agree with everyone who says that Van would not do well with worthy competitors. Knowing how she has connived against all of them at one point would certainly make a good player sit up and think.

The twins..yuk...they are mean spirited and talk about people in such a hateful way. They don't understand how anyone can talk about them and try to make deals with anyone else when it's okay for them to do that. Lots of players are like that but they are extreme. Please get Liz out first as she's the common denominator there.

Anonymous said...

@andy from last thread...I agree I would rather have seen Van get HOH this week than JMac since he said he would target Meg. She doesn't deserve to win but right now she is a vote on the other side of Austwins. Would he have realized that wasn't really the thing to do right now? One would hope. But, on the other hand Van is doing the exact same thing. Like so many others, she is wasting her HOH opportunity.

So hoping that James wins HOH and sometime during the week, Van miraculously becomes the great poker player that she's supposed to be and first realizes that she's gambling away her chance to win by not breaking up Austwins. Then she can manipulate the others all she wants but not a good bet on the Austwins.

everyone is so irritated that Austins are 'untouchable' but the Sixth Sense has dominated the comps and there you go. Smartest move all year for their side was not to backdoor Austin. Like it or not, w/o James, that "side of the house" would all be considered floaters. Also, for all the people(including myself) that want James to win, he will most surely take the $25k for favorite player. Only if John wins an HoH and evicts one of the Sixth Sense members could I envision James not winning the cash!

Lyles Movie Files said...

The Sixth Sense run of the house made the first few weeks so frustrating. We got a glimmer of hope when James and Becky knocked out 2/6 of the group only for Steve to decide to partner up with them as well.

I'm rooting for James as he's faced an uphill battle pretty much all season and I just can't stand the thought of the twins gloating after getting everyone interesting evicted.

Unknown said...

Cut the head off the snake!:best scenario for JMac,James is to get Julia out then the brains and decision maker (Vanessa) are gone then may the best houseguest win!bye Vanessa.

Love your blog Jamie forgot to tell you, that oops I don't remember disliking a player as much as Vanessa well,I can think of a few,but right now I dislike her for trying to bribe other house guests and her bullying of people,I usually believe that the best player should win at the end in her case give the win to ANYONE left beside her, okay done ranting.
